Privacy

Updated October 2026

The Part Shark is a static website. This page explains, in plain words, what happens to your information when you use it. It is written with the Australian Privacy Principles in mind, but it is not legal advice.

Accounts and My Garage

If you create an account, we store your name, your email address, a securely hashed version of your password (we never store or see the password itself), and the garage and builds you save (cars, fitted parts, budgets, build names and timer times). This is kept in a database run for us by Cloudflare. When you log in, the site sets one essential cookie that keeps you signed in. It is not used for tracking or advertising, and it is removed when you log out. We use your email only to run your account, and we do not sell it. To delete your account and everything in it, use Delete my account on the My Garage page, or email us at [email protected]. If you ask for a password reset, we email you a one-time link that expires after 45 minutes; the email is sent through our email delivery provider (Resend), which receives your email address only to deliver it. We store only a scrambled (hashed) copy of the link code, and it is deleted when used.

Saved only on your device

If you use My Garage without an account, or list a part on the Market, vote, or save a note or issue report, that information is saved only in your own browser using localStorage on this device. We cannot see it, and it is not sent to us. Clearing your browser data, using a private window or switching devices removes it.

Email

If you email us (for example to show us your ride, report an issue or ask about advertising), we receive what you choose to send, such as your name, email address, photos and message. We use it only to reply and to act on what you asked. We do not sell it. Ask us at [email protected] to see, correct or delete anything you have sent us.

Links to other sites

Parts link out to makers, retailers, eBay Australia, Repco and YouTube searches. Those sites have their own privacy policies and may use cookies once you open them. We do not control them.

Visitor counts

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and page views, so we can see which pages are useful. It does not use cookies, does not track you across other sites and does not collect personal information. See Cloudflare Web Analytics for details.

Time on site

To see how long people spend on the site and how many races get played, a small script counts the seconds you are actively using a page (the tab is on screen and you have scrolled, tapped or typed in the last 30 seconds), how many pages you view, and how many Shark Race heats you start and finish. When you leave or switch away from a page, it sends only those numbers and the section of the site (for example home or Shark Race) to our server, where they are added to daily totals. It does not use cookies and does not send or store your IP address, account, name or any ID. A random number is kept in your browser's session storage only to tell a new visit from moving between pages; it is never sent to us and is deleted when you close the tab. Shark Race also keeps your game play time, XP, skill points and paint in your browser (and in your garage save if you sign in) to unlock game parts; active time on other pages of this site adds a small XP bonus, counted only in your browser as a daily total.

Tracking and cookies

Apart from the visitor counts, the time-on-site totals and the sign-in cookie above, the site does not use advertising trackers or tracking cookies. The main site serves its own fonts. The Shark Race game page loads its fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your browser's standard request details (such as IP address) when that page loads. If we add any other analytics or tracking later, we will update this page first.
